Automobiles in Germany's City Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities reported they were alerted by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored fluid

Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a statement.

Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.

Police then found multiple other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.

Police report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the community for information.

A high-ranking representative commented the incident rendered him speechless and had to be solved quickly.

"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the death of nine people by a assailant aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
